For my final project, I decided to do a video of what a student-athlete’s life is over the past four years. The reason I picked to do my video on this topic is because of the recent NCAA video that was released (click on the dark-colored"NCAA Video" button below to view the video). It is a “day” in the life of a student-athlete. The ironic thing is that it is not accurate. It doesn’t even show the athlete eating the entire day. This video got a lot of negative controversy from student-athletes, including myself, because of the inaccuracy. This is why I then thought to myself, “I definitely can do better or at least include more realistic things.” The thing I liked most about doing this project was honestly looking through all the old videos from this season and past ones. It was nice to reminisce on all the good times and laughs we had. It truly made me appreciate my time here on the St. Bonaventure softball team a lot more. I also believe that the fact of me enjoying watching the videos so much made it easy to work on this project. It kept me effective and efficient through the process of making the final video. The software, iMovie, also helped with me being more efficient during this video development. It was very easy to figure out how to use. I didn’t even have to watch videos on “how to”. I just read the tutorial quickly and got right into playing around with the software. When I would put small clips together and watch through them, it would make me even more excited to get it all done so I can see everything all together. The comments from my professor helped because I was still trying to put the video together when I met with him. He helped me talk my thoughts out of what I should do and told me to add a checklist to Trello. He explained to make this list more in detail so that way you can go through and mark things off until your project is done. The comments from my peers were effective as well. Someone told me to include action shots of myself, in the beginning, to draw in the viewer of what sport I play and let the viewer be able to get to know me. I took this idea into consideration, used it and really ended up liking it. I think that I put good effort into this project. When I would sit down to do the project, I would focus on it and not stop until the task that I was working on was done. I spent very little time writing for this project. The only writing I did was the outline/script for the video, the words on the video, and this reflection. I believe that the production process was more effective because it was easier for me to do. When I was writing I would have to take minute breaks to come back to it and with the video making, I didn’t do that. I believe that I worked the most effectively on this project versus the other papers and projects I had in this class. As I said before, I really enjoyed this project. The fact of how much I enjoyed it caused me to sit and stay with it when working. I was excited about that final product and this is what motivated me.
